grandMA2 for Wesley Safadão DVD shoot

Wesley Safadão is a Brazilian singer, songwriter, producer, and businessman and among the most popular performers of the Forró genre. He began singing aged fifteen, beginning his professional career by joining the family band which released its first album soon after. At sixteen he became the lead singer. Since then, he has released eight albums and two DVDs. One big DVD shoot recently took place in Estadium Mané Garrincha in Brasilia, Brazil.

Lighting designer and director of photography, Carlos Nogueira, used 2 x grandMA2 full-size and 1 x grandMA2 light consoles, 2 x MA onPC command wing, 4 x MA NPU (Network Processing Unit), 5 x MA 8Port Node, 4 x 2 MA 2Port Node and 2 x MA VPU plus (Video Processing Unit) to control more than 842 fixtures of different types.

Nogueira explained: ”I used the grandMA2 because it is the system that I’ve been using over the past years. I have an incredible level of confidence in it, and it gives me all the parameters needed to control the whole rig with an optimal performance. We used a fiber optic backbone to communicate across the system. This way we can be much more precise in cues times and playback where everything is timecoded without any delay despite the great distance between the devices.”

“Another reason that led me to use the grandMA2 system is the fact that you can have several consoles working together with a trustworthy Full-Tracking-Back-up, allowing different users to control the show simultaneously accessing different functions on it”, Nogueira continued. “e.g. we had a console with our own user profile playing back the show in Timecode and also executing macros while another console in the session was used for the camera lighting.”

Vinicius Costa was the lighting programmer, Matheus Feitoza Vitor the assistant lighting designer, Fernando Trevisan (Catatau) the video director, Sidney Aguiar e Fernando Trevisan designed the video content and Carlos Leite (Umbelino) took care of video programming. Zé Carratur and Fernando Trevisan were responsible for the scenography. Gabriel Pincel was the technical producer. João Carlos Leite dealt with the load in and setup. Apple Produções supplied the equipment.
