Light of Creation, Vienna

MA Lighting: Why did you choose a grandMA3 compact?
Georg Fuchs: For Light of Creation, I programmed the show on a grandMA3 light, while the grandMA3 compact serves now as the playback console. The key advantage is that I can adjust presets and other show elements exactly the same way as on the larger desks. All essential functions are integrated into a compact housing – no external screens, keyboards, or PCs required. It’s easy to transport, fits into any corner of the venue, and has proven to be absolutely reliable. Since the premiere nearly a year ago, we haven’t had a single dropout.

MA Lighting: What do you like about the hardware?
Georg Fuchs: The build quality is excellent. Everything feels solid and robust, and the design is very well thought out. I particularly appreciate the flexibility in how I can configure the executor section to match my workflow.

MA Lighting: In which applications do you use the products?
Georg Fuchs: Mainly in architectural and artistic lighting installations – for example, Light of Creation at Vienna’s Votivkirche. It’s also an ideal solution for venues with limited space or smaller busking shows.

MA Lighting: Which grandMA3 features are the most beneficial in your daily work?
Georg Fuchs: The combination of the selection grid and MA Tricks speeds up programming dramatically. It takes phaser creation to the next level and using it for building Position presets saves a significant amount of time. The recast preset function is another feature I enjoy using.

MA Lighting: Are there external systems you trigger with your console?
Georg Fuchs: Yes, but at Light of Creation the grandMA3 compact controls only the lighting fixtures. Video, audio, and timecode are handled by a Pixera media server. The console itself is triggered via LTC timecode from Pixera, ensuring synchronization across the entire show system.

MA Lighting: How do you set up your show on smaller hardware?
Georg Fuchs: Clarity is crucial. I always want quick access to all fixtures and a clear view of the fixture sheet – that’s my core reference in every workspace. Around this structure, I build pools and views that allow me to program efficiently, even on compact hardware.

MA Lighting: What is your resume about the grandMA3 compact?
Georg Fuchs: The grandMA3 compact combines excellent build quality with a good executor layout and delivers the full software feature set of the larger consoles – all in a portable, space-saving format.
