Obituary for Ernst Ebrecht

It is with great sadness that we bid farewell to Ernst Ebrecht, co-founder of MA Lighting Technology GmbH and a longtime colleague, partner and friend. Ernst passed away on September 27, 2026, at the age of 73, after a serious illness.

For more than four decades, Ernst played a defining role in shaping both the technical success and the culture of our company. Much of what MA Lighting stands for today is inseparably connected to his vision, expertise, and determination.

Ernst joined the company in 1985 and quickly assumed responsibility for software development. Under his leadership, the software for MA Lighting’s first internationally successful lighting control systems was created, including the Lightcommander, the LCD series, and later the Scancommander. These pioneering products laid the foundation for the acclaimed grandMA series that followed.

Through his dedication, technical excellence and perseverance, Ernst helped transform MA Lighting from a small company into an internationally recognized technology leader.

We remember Ernst as an outstanding developer, a source of ideas, and a driving force behind many of our achievements. Just as importantly, we remember him as a person whose authenticity, generosity, and profound knowledge inspired colleagues throughout the company.  He has left a lasting legacy: in our products, in our culture, and in the countless people whose professional lives he influenced.

Our heartfelt condolences go out to his family, friends and everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.

We are deeply grateful for the time we shared with Ernst and for all that he contributed to our company and our lives. He will be greatly missed and will remain in our memories with gratitude and respect.
